Breast MRI is another tool that helps us protect your breast health. It is often used for breast cancer screening, diagnosis, or evaluation.
Breast MRI may be ordered as part of breast cancer screening or to evaluate breast cancer in someone who has already been diagnosed. An MRI is far more in-depth than a mammogram or an ultrasound, but it is also a more expensive procedure.
The breast MRI procedure is quick, painless, and non-invasive. You will lay on a padded table inside of the MRI machine for 30-45 minutes while the images are being taken. It is important that you are completely still during the test.
Your doctor may want to have a dye-contrast MRI which involves injecting dye into your body before the MRI. If you have any kidney problems, please let your doctor know as the dye can cause problems for patients whose kidneys don’t function well.
